Work

Around 1985 van Merwijk started writing music. At first arranging for both amateurs and professionals. Slowly widening his scope to finally make monumental arrangements such as a 75 minutes rendition of Wagner’s Ring der Nibelungen (for the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, 2013) and a highly praised version for wind ensemble of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliette (NWE, 2014). Van Merwijk is regarded as one of the finest arrangers in the Netherlands of today.
Then around 2006 the moment came to take it one step further and van Merwijk wrote his first two original compositions, using the pseudonym Guillermo Lago. Since then he wrote numerous compositions for a wide array of musicians, ensembles and occasions. Many of his compositions have been recorded on CD/DVD.
