On Wednesday the 9th of June 2021 Thitipol Piseskul performed his Master exam at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam under the guidance of my colleague Arno Bornkamp, one of the great classical saxophonists of our age and a fantastic teacher. I had the honour to assist in the education of Thitipol over the last 6 years, both as a saxophone teacher and as a teacher of saxophone education.
Then COVID 19 hit the world and the last ‘saxophone’ session I had with Thitipol was online…. I felt very sad about that and decided to write him a graduation gift to express my sympathy and deep appreciation for him.
A modest piece (In Modesty the Master Shows Himself) just like Thitipol is. But…. over the years I have seen him develop into a real master of the instrument, a great musician and a self-conscious person, never denying his character but now with a very clear and proud presence. And he has every right to be proud of himself!
Thitipol is no longer my student after the 9th of June: he has become a highly esteemed colleague in the world of music.
